Can you imagine how different this country could have been today, if Basdeo Panday had managed his temper, swallowed his pride, and not defected from the NAR to form Club ’88? 

 My fellow Trinidadians, what is happening to our beautiful country? I am shocked by the utter disregard for the suffering of our people that has been shown by our government.

The Trinity Cross is about to be replaced with an award that would eliminate the friction and grumbling protests from non-Christians in our plural society. Today, I wish to remind readers of a piece I had written during the controversy.

There is probably more corruption under the PNM than any other government. The machinery is well-oiled and runs smoothly, and unlike the UNC, it isn’t concentrated in the hands of a few but spread a little more evenly, across the board.

There is a growing awareness among many that Dr Rowley was dismissed in very questionable circumstances.

 The bacchanal over Rowley’s sudden firing is not likely to weaken the PNM.

Sometimes they say a "picture is worth a thousand words" and that has proven to be so true; then there is another saying "actions speak louder than words" and that too has over time proven to be true as well...without question...Mr. Speaker?...!

I have often debated Panday’s irrational behaviour, trying to deny that that it isn’t a serious flaw in his leadership. One the one hand, one cant help but admire his courage and strength in the face of crisis. He has demonstrated nerves and testicular fortitude under pressure like no man. On the other hand, he doesn’t seem to think things through as he should and it is this disregard for consequences that has him where he is.

Basdeo Panday has probably committed political suicide after behaving like a real wajang in Parliament last Friday (2008-03-28). See Guardian 2008-03-29.

In essence the Speaker of the House made proper enquiries of Mr Panday's use of a laptop. Mr Panday behaved in a difficult and unhelpful manner and eventually refused to comply with the Speaker's legitimate requests. Mr Panday was then lawfully suspended from the House.

The battle for presidential nomination between Barack Obama and Hilary Clinton has captivated America. The fluctuating fortunes and exchanges between these two have eclipsed the fact that the Republican nominee has been finalized.

One of the things that pisses me off, and I know it does many people, is the amount of pseudo-legal action going on in Trinidad courts. Seldom is it that a case is tried, decided and done with.

The American culprits arrested and probed in the Airport corruption scandal have been sentenced and have nearly served their time. In Trinidad, the culprits are filing frivolous and idiotic legal actions, counter actions etc. and are still fighting an extradition, much less getting close to their real trial.
